Masood Hospital Services

1992 saw a new dawn in the healthcare services in Pakistan. On November 30th 1992 Masood Hospital opened its doors for providing healthcare services to the communities of Lahore. From a very humble start of just seventeen indoor beds, two operation theaters and a small outpatient setup, the hospital, in 14 years, developed to an internationally recognized healthcare facility catering to patients from 28 countries of 4 continents of the world.
From its inception, the management had a vision to create a facility that could provide healthcare according to international standards but keep the financial burden on its patients at a minimum possible. We still move with that vision today and despite excellent standards, our costs are sometimes less than a tenth of our counterparts in the international market.
The hospital infrastructure is built with the modern idea that a healthcare facility should look like a resort and minimize the psychological pressure on the patient of being admitted to a hospital. Starting from the front desk right up to indoor facilities, the entire hospital has been designed to look like a hotel to give our patients a pleasant feeling. Obviously, the factors that are necessary to maintain health safety are thoroughly ingrained in the design structure.

Acupuncture is one form of traditional Chinese medicine that is widely used throughout the world.

Acupuncture, and traditional Chinese medicine generally, is based on a complex theory of body functioning that involves a flow of energy, or ”qi,” through 14 main pathways, or ”meridians,” in the body. There is also a balance of opposites known as ”yin” and ”yang.” According to traditional Chinese medicine, disease states are thought to be a consequence of disrupted energy flow and/or imbalances.

Acupuncture refers to a group of procedures that involve stimulating specific locations on the skin. Most often, this involves the insertion of thin, solid, metallic needles into points on the body’s ”meridians”. It is believed that this alters the flow of energy and thereby produces improvement. There are approximately 400 acupuncture points, but usually only four to twelve points are used in a single session.

Other methods for stimulating the skin are also used. The acupuncture points can be stimulated by:

*    Finger pressure, which is known as acupressure or, in Japan, shiatsu

*    Small heated cups placed on the points (” cupping”)

*    Electroacupuncture, which uses electrically stimulated needles

At Masood Hospital we have a homeopathic doctor qualified and trained in acupuncture for providing services. Acupuncture is generally used in treatment of allergy and asthma, headaches, back pain and musculoskeletal problems. It is considered useful in neuro psychiatric problems like anxiety, depression, insomnia and even control of addictions. Its practitioner also claims it to be beneficial as an adjuvant treatment for conditions like high blood pressure, indigestion, constipation, sexual dysfunction and even post-operative recovery and palliative care.

Obviously, acupuncture is not a form of treatment currently endorsed or fully appreciated by allopathic medicine and is therefore classified as alternative medicine.
